12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, via Zoom

EVENT AND ACTIVITY UPDATES

  • Spirit Wear Sale – Kristina T. has ordered the items, but we don’t know a delivery date
    yet.
  • Wednesday Fun Day – Audrey G. reported on the GooseChase scavenger hunt at Lewisville Park. There were about 50 people signed up, but only about 30 came back for their prizes. We spent about $250 on prizes. The kids who participated had fun, and it was a beautiful day. Thanks, Audrey!
  • Teacher Requests – during the month of May, we have had a few requests: Middle School is having a Reading Frenzy, and has asked for CAP to provide ice cream; Candace A. has requested a second computer monitor for Mrs. Karlsen’s classroom next year. Both requests have been approved.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Grad Night Restaurant Fundraiser at Hazel Dell Chipotle on Wednesday, May 12, from 4-8 p.m. – we can earn 33%, so please come on out that evening!
  • Teacher Appreciation Week – May 3-7th – Hollie A. and Suzanne B. have been working on special surprises for each day. They decorated the sidewalks and had fun signs up Monday morning. They provided snacks for the teacher lounge, and gave each a cute little mailbox gift this morning. There will be another little surprise for teachers on Friday. On Thursday, CAP planned to treat the teachers to coffee, so reached out to Dutch Bros. Dutch Bros offered to treat all CAM teachers on Thursday! They just need to show their CAM IDs. Thanks, DB!!! CAP is going to purchase $100 worth of $5 gift cards as a thank you, then use them as student incentives.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  • 8th Grade Recognition – Tammy H. only has one other parent interested in helping with the graduation, so PLEASE ask your 8th grade parent friends to consider helping out. The teachers would like to celebrate on the 14th at noon. Tammy also asked for some details from last year’s planners. They had put together goody bags with stickers and candy bars, or with allergen-friendly snacks as needed. Hollie A. will send photos to Tammy. She also has the frame and will help with certificates. Tammy needs one person to do the photo booth, and a few for other jobs. PLEASE help out with this if you are able!
  •  High School Grad Night
    • Fundraisers – Panda, MOD, Red Robin, Plant Sale – these are all about wrapped up, but we don’t know the total amount of money brought in yet. Chipotle fundraiser still to come.
The grad night committee is meeting weekly, working on making the event as fun as possible for our kids. We are planning on renting fun inflatables, lots of fun indoor (jousting, dancing with J. Denfeld as DJ, movie night, board games) and outdoor activities (campfires, smores, volleyball, yard games, pedal carts), and having an all-you-can-drink coffee bar for a couple hours (Pacific Perk coffee cart) around the middle of the night, to help the kids stay awake during the all-nighter. Thanks, everyone, for supporting our fundraising efforts!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • 2021-2022 CAP Board needs a treasurer, and coordinators for the restaurant fundraiser,
Thanksgiving lunch (Tammy H. volunteered at the meeting to help with the money/sign-up portion; Donita P. volunteered right after to be the coordinator – Thank you both!), game night, and high school grad committee. All these positions come with support and guidance.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Elections open at 1:00 pm today and will stay open until 12:00 pm on June 1. VOTE!

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Suzanne mentioned a budget highlight for the month – over $100 from Fred Meyer was just deposited. We will be posting the full report on the website.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile, Fred Meyer Rewards, and Box Tops – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • Mr. Cowl requested CAP consider paying for photography at graduation this year. CAP members agreed. He has a quote from Dorian Photography: It will be about $7 per student for 2 5x7s,[plus $4 shipping], times about 40 students, for a total of just under $500. Sarah N. volunteered to reach out to Tyler Mode about whether he is available and what that cost might look like. She will report back to him and he can move forward with securing one of the photographer options.
  • PBIS report from Ms. Marks and Mr. Cowl – they are doing all-school incentives by grade bands, working their way up so they get to all students before the end of the year.
  • Enrollment looks good for next year. We already have over 40 kids for 3rd grade, so only a few slots, and 4th-8th are all full with waitlists. There is still room at the high school level for next year, and it looks like the 9th grade class is on track to be pretty full.
  • The open house may happen (at least mostly) virtually this year – each grade level will
communicate with families as to what that may look like. There will not be an end-of-year bbq this year. During the upcoming rainy days, we will rotate at least the younger kids through the commons for lunch, flipping between there and outside by grade band. We will all do our best to make things work the best they can.
  • Retirements – Ruth Mills and Deb Pfeiffer are the retirees at the end of this year. Next
year, Mrs. Karlsen and Mrs. Hart will be returning to CAM next year. A HUGE thank you to Candace Allen, who has gone above and beyond what any long-term sub would usually do – she has done an amazing job for the kids this year! Nick Wallen is on a “non-continuing” contract, so we will not be able to have him back, which is very sad for CAM.
  • The board voted, 3-2, to cut some teaching positions across the district. CAM will not
lose any positions, but Mr. Cowl doesn’t get an interview team to work on hiring replacements for the 3 above open positions – instead, new teachers will be placed from within the district. We have had good luck with that process in the past, and look forward to seeing who joins CAM next!

Next Meeting: June 1, 2021, at 12 p.m. via Zoom

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, via Zoom

EVENT, ACTIVITY, & FUNDRAISER UPDATES

  • Read2Ride Library Event for 3rd-6th graders – Melissa W. reports that a handful of families participated from home this year.
  • CAP fulfilled several teacher requests last month – we purchased some electronic equipment for Mr. and Mrs. Harpe and Mrs. Allen, as well as books for Ms. Whitten.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Wed Fun Day – April 21, 1-3, at Lewisville Park – GooseChase Scavenger Hunt – Suzanne B. suggested we consider using some of the Izzes from Pizza Tuesday for this event instead. Suzanne will check expiration dates, and will also check for water bottles.
  • Spirit Wear Sale – order now through April 23rd. The order form was sent out to all families via email.
  • Grad Night Restaurant Fundraisers
    • This Thursday, April 15 – Panda Express
    • Next Thursday, April 22 – MOD Pizza – please “commit to eat” with Group Raise
    • Thursday, April 29 – Red Robin
    • Wednesday, May 12 – Chipotle

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website for instructions. FM Rewards for Q1: $144.54 / AmazonSmile: $86.91.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts. We’ve only earned $46.50 so far this year.

COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • 8th Grade Recognition – Tammy H reported planning for a drive-through ceremony to keep things simple and consistent (avoiding last-minute changes). Tammy has a small committee, but she’d love for people to contact her. She also plans to reach out to 8th grade parents. She said they will send the character traits to the 8th grade teachers for student recognition. It will be very similar to last year’s 8th grade drive-thru. Hollie A. said she still has the big photo frame for pictures, and thinks she can change it to make it work for this year.
  • High School Grad Night – Due to fundraising difficulties, the grad committee decided last night to forego an “away” portion to the grad night this year. The entire grad night will be happening in and around the CAM parking lot and in the facility of the church next door. The event will begin after graduation ends and go until the next morning. We will have an option for an earlier dismissal for those who have classes at Clark the next morning. We have lots of fun ideas and are looking forward to giving these seniors a night to remember.
    • PLEASE help us out by supporting our fundraising efforts at the restaurant events (above) and via the plant sale (last chance orders accepted thru April 25). This money will help feed our kids and rent some fun activities for them to enjoy on grad night.
  • Parents of Alumni Contact List – HS Grad Committee plans to offer “opt-in” to all senior families in follow-up to grad party communications.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Monthly budget presented at meeting
    • March activity –
      • We spent money on teacher requests
      • Some money came in from grad night fundraising and spirit wear.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Are you interested in filling a CAP position next year? Start thinking about it. Elections will be in next month, with the new board announced in June.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • State Testing 2021 – WA State keeps going back and forth with the government re: waiving the requirements – we still don’t know if state testing will happen or not. It looks like we will have testing very late, if at all.
  • 4th grade classrooms got flooded over spring break due to a problem with pressure in the fire sprinkler system. Our custodian happened to be working, so he was able to get the water turned off relatively quickly. They have had fans running. Mrs. Pfeifer is in the IC lab and Mrs. Whitten is in room 105 in the HS hallway. We are fortunate we have the space to relocate those classrooms, and the students are doing great with that transition. The clean-up construction will be happening over the next several weeks.
  • No new info on the building, except that they are still in communication.
  • Due to the failed levy, which probably won’t be re-run until November, it is expected that there will be some budget cuts. CAM staffing will remain the same, but based on seniority, there could be potential for teachers to be bumped. Board member Denny put together a presentation, which you should be able to look up on the board’s website and facebook. He suggested that if the next levy doesn’t pass, there may be cuts of [some] alternative schools. There is a reality of what might be the ramification of the levy failing another time. Mr. Cowl would like parent support in the fall with getting accurate info out and helping folks to be aware of the realities so they can make informed decisions.
  • HS Grad will be at District Stadium – we have 44-46 graduates, so we may get to have a lot of family participation. June 9th is the date for sure.
  • PBIS – The PBIS group gave out items to primary students in April, and anticipates giving to Middle in May, and HS in June. They are using up inventory, but may ask for more donation help from CAP as needed.

Next Meeting: May 4th, 2021, at 12 p.m. via Zoom

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, via Zoom

EVENT, ACTIVITY, & FUNDRAISER UPDATES

  • GooseChase Scavenger Hunt for Game Night Replacement – went well, lots of fun, very well attended. We now have access to the app for a year, so maybe we’ll do it again in the future as the weather warms.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Spirit Wear Sale April 12-23 – probably a pandemic-inspired design. The Interact Club is also selling T-shirts at the same time, but we decided to forge ahead with the sale anyway.
  • Virtual Read2Ride for Silverwood Tickets – participation happens in the month of March. 3rd-6th graders can read outside of class for 10 hours and earn a free ticket to Silverwood!

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts.

COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • 8th Grade Recognition
  • High School Grad Night – plant sale starting. Letter has been distributed to businesses asking for donations. Pizza cards are selling. We’re working on restaurant fundraisers. Currently, we are planning on tentatively using the church across from CAM for the overnight, since our budget is so small. We may be able to get Superplay, but transportation will be a challenge. We are hoping to get to $2500, but it’s a really tough year to fundraise, so we’ll be happy if we even get $2000. We have 45 seniors – typically, about 80% participate, so we are projecting about 35 students attending.
  • Parents of Alumni Contact List – still looking for a volunteer to take this on.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Budget for this year is posted on the CAP Website / Monthly budget presented at meeting – Income this month came from Payback Books, Amazon, Fred Meyer, and Boxtops for Education.
  • Candace A. has placed a teacher request for a science educational website subscription. We are in agreement that we will fulfill that request.
  • We’ve helped fund the middle school yearbook incentives to get a little better participation, as well.

NEW BUSINESS

  • New Website – camacademyparents.com. Check it out! Sarah G. said it is possible to do a storefront for Spirit Wear, so she and Kristina T. will coordinate that in future.
  • Elections – Are you interested in filling a CAP position next year? Start thinking about it. Elections will be in May, with the new board to be announced in June.
  • Suggestion – can we invite new-to-CAM families to our CAP meetings? – maybe we can post on the website? – Sarah N. can provide a blurb for Ms. Marks / Mrs. Spencer / Mr. Cowl to send an invite to new parents.
  • Library – Melissa W. asked if it might be possible to open. Suzanne B. reported that the last decision we had heard was that it was not possible, because no one can be in the building Wed. due to deep cleaning, and during the other days, the room has been designated for Covid-specific purposes.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • Mrs. Whitten’s class wants to do 450 laps over many recess times, because Lewis and Clark’s journey was 3325 miles. They are hoping to invite 3rd graders to join, and they are hoping to have CAP provide some sort of a treat or incentive at completion, maybe in May. Mr. Cowl thought ice cream might be a good way to celebrate this small community achievement. This will need done a couple of times, for A days, B days, and hopefully remote kids, as well.
  • Mr. Cowl reported on the last special session of the school board. The levy failed. The district is trying to figure out when to run it again. The board has several members in transition. They will not run a levy again in April, which means they will make about $3 million of cuts this year. It looks like they are still working on purchasing the building, because that could be funded with a different pot of money.
  • High School will be starting March 15, which is exciting!

February 2, 2021

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm, via Zoom

EVENT, ACTIVITY, & FUNDRAISER UPDATES

  • Payback Books – We have sold 94 books online and 26 at the school – it’s been a difficult sales year across the board due to the Coronavirus, but at least we were able to sell some.
  • Teacher Encouragement – Katie Cowl did January – she had a cute Dr. Seuss poem with a candy bar for each teacher. Hollie A. suggested making a shared album of previous teacher appreciation pieces. Suzanne B. said we could compile them in Google Drive or maybe on the Cluster page for future reference. Hollie A. is covering this each month, but would be very happy to have someone else pick up a month.
  • Minecraft – 9 students are currently on the whitelist (elementary and middle). Everything seems to be going well, with no problems or concerns. If anyone wants to join, email CAP with their full name and their player/user name, and we will set them up on the server.
  • PBIS Update – The PBIS group had been working on possibilities for a joint event with CAP – some sort of Student Appreciation Drive-Thru. The PBIS group had been looking at Wed., Feb. 17, but that isn’t working because we don’t have the staff and parents cannot volunteer currently. Ms. Marks is thinking about passing rewards (and honor roll certificates?) out at attestation time once the Elementary AND Middle School students are all on campus – they will discuss this more during the PBIS meeting next Wednesday, the 10th. PBIS is looking for a collaboration with CAP, so we will ask Katie S. if she’d like to work on partnering with PBIS for a joint student appreciation event, possibly with CAP purchasing candy for the kids, as that is the typical student appreciation treat at this time of year.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Game Night – Feb 20th – Normally we have a family game night in the commons, but this year, we are going virtual, with a scavenger hunt in and around Battle Ground via the GooseChase app. We will have prizes and it should be a fun socially distanced activity. We will let Cheryl know to get it on the calendar.
  • Presentation by Citizens for Better Schools – Upcoming levy vote – trying to get information out to folks – due to Covid, walk-n-knocks have not been possible. Amy Price, with Citizens for Better Schools, is asking us to do the following: vote, remind others to vote, and like the facebook page. They are creating a scavenger hunt event as part of First Friday BG – they have little “Citizen” toys in primary colors. You can grab a card from any store that participates (store list on FB page), and if you get 8 sign-offs from different businesses, it enters you into a prize drawing. They also still havesign-waving events if anyone wants to volunteer, Feb. 4 & 8, 3:30-5. Votebgschools.org is the website.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school. – We received $154 from FM this quarter. It’s a great consistent way to keep supporting CAP. Thank you!
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts.

COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • 8th Grade Recognition – Tammy said they are in a holding pattern, waiting to see if things open up so they can know what to plan, whether drive-thru or in-person.
  • High School Grad Night – plant sale fundraiser is coming up. The grad committee has been trying to come up with several contingency plans so they can have options. Maybe it will be an afternoon to evening event in a cheap or free location on the weekend after, rather than an overnighter at a venue the night of graduation. The committee has been very limited in fundraising options. They are thinking about outdoor gatherings, and again, how to get something special for the kids while dealing with the restrictions that may be in place. They may end up doing something in the evening at CAM, then use the field and parking lot, and maybe the church building. Mr. Cowl is willing to ask about using the CAM building for grad night – often it’s a no-go because of risk management.
  • Parents of Alumni Contact List – please let us know if you are interested in helping us with that.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Budget for this year is posted on the CAP Website / Monthly budget usually presented at meeting, but Megan T. had car trouble and couldn’t make it tonight.

NEW BUSINESS

  • We need to change our web-hosting platform. Right now, we have webs.com with a free site, which has been fine, but quite limited (i.e., we cannot have a spiritwear store, or anything else that uses html). However, they are phasing the free offering out by March31. No matter what, we will have to change our domain name, and we should do it soon, so our old site has a banner directing traffic to the new site. One good option is to set up a WordPress site (very common, has good upgrades) that Sarah G. can get us onto for free, and we can use something simple like “camacademyparents.com” as our address. We liked the sound of more flexibility, a better address, and continued affordability, so we have asked Sarah G. to pursue that change to WordPress.
  • Ms. Campbell and the year book staff are having a really tough time getting photos this year. Please spread the word that they are needing high school photos. She asked if CAP would provide $120 worth of $10 gift cards as an incentive for photo submissions.Suzanne B. will coordinate that. Hollie A. suggested we check in and offer to help Mr. Clapp and the Middle School yearbook staff, as well.
  • We will need to move CAP meetings, because school will start dismissing at 1:30. We discussed trying out 12-1, so people can be free to pick up their kids.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • Next year, they will have one info meeting for new families and have it recorded and posted.
  • Enrollment is now open, so tell your friends. Currently, it looks like there is a bit of room at every grade, and obviously, more seats open at 3rd grade. It is first-come,first-served.
  • Hybrid for middle school looks very promising, possibly around Feb. 22, with the current Clark County numbers. It sounds like even if the numbers go back up, they will not go away from hybrid as far as we currently understand.
  • Elementary started this week – there are 9 or 10 kids per class, which is great, and the kids are so happy to be back at school.

2021-02-CAP-General-Meeting

Next Meeting: March 2, 2021, at 12 p.m. via Zoom

1:00 pm 1:40 pm, via Zoom

EVENT, ACTIVITY, & FUNDRAISER UPDATES

  • MOD Pizza Fundraiser – Deena R. finally received both checks from MOD. We received $375 in total, which we have deposited. Thank you so much, Deena, for all your hard work on this fundraiser! Thanks to our families for supporting us so well during this crazy time!
  • Payback Books – sales during picture days didn’t go great. We sold only 2 books. We still have almost 2 full boxes left. The plan was to sell them through the end of 2020. If you have any ideas where to sell them, please email us. Otherwise, we will plan to wrap that up.
  • Cluster Photo Sharing – December Winner and Discussion re: taking a break – We are having the same few people participate each month, so we will plan to take a break for now. If people want to start it up again after a while, please let us know. Anjelina Shevchenko, 5th grade, won the drawing for the month, so she will receive a $10 DB card.
  • Teacher Encouragement – Hollie did a cute ornament that emphasized JOY and was a nice treat for the teachers. Katie Cowl is on for January. Please let us know ideas, or if you’d like to take a month. Hollie A. is willing to continue on, but is also happy to let someone else take a month.
  • Minecraft – We started our CAM server back up. So far, it is going well. There are 6 people on the whitelist. In order to get on the whitelist and participate, students need to send their name and Player Name to the CAP email, and we will sign them up and share the server info.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts.

COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • 8th Grade Recognition
  • High School Grad Night – Greg L. reported that the grad team is selling Papa Murphy’s $5 discount cards, and have sold about half of their 50 cards. We purchase them for $1 each, and sell them for $5, keeping $4 profit from each card. They have several coupons on each card.
  • Parents of Alumni Contact List – We would like to find a parent who would be willing to work on compiling a list, starting with this year’s senior parents. Hopefully, we can grow it from year to year and report fundraisers to parents of previous CAM students / alumni.
  • Game Night – February – maybe we want to try a virtual event? Maybe we do online bingo, or a socially-distanced scavenger hunt around town with selfie check-ins. We would love it if someone would like to take this on, and try to keep some of our events alive.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Budget for this year is posted on the CAP Website / Monthly budget presented at meeting
  • Megan presented the budget – it was a slow month, as usual. We received funds from MOD and a donation (THANKS!). We are up for the school year thus far, not down, but there are some receipt refunds still waiting for submission. We paid out one teacher request, and received $40 from Payback, $350 in donations, and $375.33 from MOD.

NEW BUSINESS

  • We discussed whether or not we need to move the black CAP cabinet to the commons, because the old computer lab is going to be a Covid Room. Mr. Cowl is going to follow up on that and doesn’t think we’ll need to move it, because we don’t anticipate needing to access it during the school day.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • Hybrid learning will be coming up. Feb 1 is the projected start date for grades 3 and 4 at CAM. Mr. Cowl is still working on details and will be putting out more details as he and the teaching team work them out, so stay tuned! Mr. Cowl was also asked about parent volunteering – he said he will ask if we are going to be able to process volunteer forms again, but at the moment, the district is not even taking volunteer forms, which makes volunteering unfeasible.

Next Meeting: February 2, 2021, at 6 p.m. via Zoom

CAP General Meeting Minutes December 1, 2020

1:00 pm 1:40 pm, via Zoom

EVENT, ACTIVITY, & FUNDRAISER UPDATES

  • MOD Pizza Fundraiser – we will receive $375.33 for the fundraiser. Thanks for supporting our fundraiser! Thanks, Deena R., for all your hard work on this!
  • Payback Books – Hollie A. had suggested we try to sell books in-person during primary school pick-up. It was a great idea – we quickly sold out. We also sold books on a middle school pick-up day. Mr. Cowl is trying to make sure the permissions play “within the rules” and align with the district. For picture day later this week, he would like parents to stay in their cars, so the seller will need to walk up to the cars. We are trying to make the most of every opportunity to connect with families. Wed, 12-3, then 2-3 on Thursday look the busiest, so that’s when we’ll try to sell. We would love to have a volunteer for some of those hours, so please reach out if you are available.
  • Library Day – 3rd and 4th grade had a pick-up day – Melissa W. reported that parts of it went well and parts of it were challenging. If there gets to be a “next time,” we can solve the “attestation station” problems we had, but the question is whether or not we are allowed in the school currently. We will need to ask Mr. Cowl if it’s still feasible with the district rules at this point in time.
  • Cluster Photo Sharing – the numbers have slowed down, and the same people are continuing to participate. It’s a fun idea, but it doesn’t seem like it’s bringing a lot of families together at the moment. We are doing one challenge for the whole month of December, and we will reassess if we want to continue in January. If anyone has any ideas for additional engagement or some other thing to do, please email us your suggestions. The November Drawing Winner is Courtney Stephens, from 3rd grade. She will receive a $10 Dutch Bros card.
  • Teacher Encouragement – This month, Hollie A. gave our teachers and staff a nice message with Passion tea, thanking them for their passion in teaching our kids. January is covered, but Hollie A. is happy to share the load with this project, or to continue working on it. If you’d like to participate, please email CAP. She suggested cataloguing the ideas we come up with onto our Drive so CAP can use them in the future. Tori D. asked about recognizing life events, like weddings. Hollie A. suggested that class parents do this, rather than CAP.
  • Minecraft Server for CAM kids – we opened it and quickly had problems with language, so we shut it down, established controls and identification pieces, and brainstormed ways to solve the issues while still giving the kids this outlet. We have some parents who have volunteered to monitor the site at times. There may still possibly be a potential for problems, but it’s much more secure. We are looking for parental input on this. Tori D. suggested opening it from maybe 3-8 daily, and maybe more on Wed. This way, kids aren’t tempted to be on during school hours. Tori D. has also heard from responsible 8th graders that they would be happy to help monitor. We are inclined to start again, and at least try it – maybe with the elementary kids first, then add the middle school if it goes ok, and maybe add HS in future if possible. Suzanne will be looking at starting it up again.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile (quarterly – $75.03) & Fred Meyer Rewards (quarterly – $164.18) – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts.

COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • 8th Grade Recognition – we’ll probably know more in January.
  • High School Grad Night – this is a really difficult year for planning – so far, there has not been much parental involvement (4 parents have expressed interest), and it’s very hard to fundraise this year. We don’t have the commons as a resource. We weren’t able to put together a wreath sale this year. If anyone has any bright ideas for fundraising that still work during this strange time, please email us. We are anticipating a different year, even by grad time, and are keeping in mind the possibility of maybe a small gift rather than a party, or throwing together a party at the last minute. CAP may end up helping to subsidize in different ways than usual. We may try to still do the Sees candy for Valentine’s and the spring plant sale. Parents of seniors, please check in and help out with the senior class fundraising! Greg L. suggested Papa Murphy’s gift cards. The grad committee will plan to meet in January.
  • Payback book sales during picture days – we addressed this in more detail this above.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Budget for this year is posted on the CAP Website. The monthly budget was presented at the meeting. Since we have had such a different year, we are spending differently. For instance, on teacher appreciation, we paid for several retirement gifts, and we are appreciating teachers as a monthly expense, rather than a one-time event. We will probably go over budget in that category, but we will also be under in other categories. We had more income than expenses this month. We paid our PO Box, and we got some donations from families, which we really appreciate! Thank you for your generosity!

NEW BUSINESS

Parents of Alumni Contact List – we will start generating this from year to year, asking families of seniors if they want to continue receiving info from CAM, because the school cannot give us contact info of previously attending families. We will try to start sending them a quarterly newsletter as alumni, so they can know how to support the school from year to year. This should help us get a bigger return on our fundraising efforts, too. If anyone wants to work on this, please email CAP.

Melissa W. asked how parents might best get Christmas cards to teachers this year. Could we send out the school address or something on the facebook pages? Suzanne will check with Cheryl and we’ll try to get some information out.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mr. Cowl said the staff is trying to maximize every opportunity when students come to the building. During picture day, kids will receive their honor roll certificates from last year. He said trying to keep within the district guidelines as they change is sometimes difficult, but they are doing the best they can. Mr. Cowl communicated his appreciation for CAP and for the parents. He said the parental level of commitment, which really helps with the students’ level of engagement, is remaining consistently high. He also mentioned that the HIV opt-out form is now working again.

Next Meeting: We’ll see you January 5, 2021, at 1 p.m. via Zoom.

November 3, 2020

6:00 pm 6:40 pm, via Zoom

EVENT, ACTIVITY, & FUNDRAISER UPDATES

  • MOD Pizza Fundraiser – happened 10/14 – there were some hiccups, but MOD was trying to make sure we got all our assigned orders. We hope to hear an update next month.
  • Payback Books – still going until the end of November! We will have an in-person sale this Wed from 10-2. We are looking for a helper from 12-2. Please let us know if you are available.
  • Library Day – For lower grade students, Wed, from 10-12:30. Melissa W. is heading this up and has arranged for attestation, check-out, and check-in.
  • Cluster Photo Sharing – Ryan B. won our drawing for his October submission and will receive a $10 Dutch Bros. gift card. New challenges are announced weekly via email and the dailies. Please remember to give the student’s name and grade when you submit photos! Some parents report not receiving the weekly email with the link – we have asked them to check spam, then let us know if they are still not receiving it.
  • Teacher and Staff Encouragement – (28 people – 18 teachers, plus staff and admin)

– monthly treats and thank you’s – Suzanne B. left “Thank you for your commit-mint” mints in October. These have been very well received. Hollie A. is taking this project on for November and December. She has some ideas for using her Cricut machine. Katie Cowl is taking January. If anyone has any ideas, future months are up for grabs – just let us know you’d like to help! Megan T. also noted that CAP is able to fund this in advance, or as a reimbursement.

  • Teacher Requests – CAP fulfilled a request for additional classroom books and supplies for Mrs. Harpe in October. Mrs. Borges just requested a book set of Holes, so we are working on that. Mr. Caughie may be turning in a request for juggling supplies soon.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts.

COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Pen Pal Coordinator – we offered this at the last meeting. We are just checking again if anyone is interested in arranging this. Email CAP if you are.
  • HS Grad Committee – Tori D. got an email sent out and is building a contact list. The committee is not sure what graduation will look like, but the committee will plan for both possibilities to try to be prepared. If you are interested and missed the email, please let CAP know. Mr. Cowl said Prairie Auditorium has been reserved for high school grad, in case it is able to happen.
  • 8th Grade Recognition Committee – Tori D. asked if there has been a reservation for Chief. Mr. Cowl is going to follow up and check on whether this has already been taken care of or not. It looks like 8th grade grad will be pretty early in June.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Budget for this year is posted on the CAP Website. Annual and monthly budgets were presented at meeting. Megan T. reported that this year has been very slow, as we are not spending a lot and we are not making a lot.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Minecraft was asked about – it’s on hold for a while as we are ironing out some details and fine-tuning some things. Tori D. said we are looking at all sorts of ways we can make it work better, like having it open only during certain times, and looking to have shifts monitored. She mentioned there are 8th graders who would like to help with monitoring if that is possible.
  • Game Night – January – maybe we can do a family-style Zoom with reverse charades or pictionary? Help us think up some fun ideas and details on this one! Mr. Cowl also suggested a family Cahoot night.
  • Please always feel free to reach out via camacademyparents@gmail.com with ideas, feedback, comments, questions, etc.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • Nov. 11 – Veteran’s Day – Evan S. and Lynae M. interviewed their veteran grandparents and Evan is working on a presentation. Mr. Cowl will also have some resources to share. These will be presented school-wide during the week of Veteran’s Day so we can all get an assembly-type feel, even while distanced. We really want to continue to emphasize our gratitude for the service of our veterans. THANK YOU!
  • It doesn’t look like we will get to have our normal Nov. and Dec. school events. We cannot have our Thanksgiving Feast like normal, but Mr. Cowl is hoping to treat staff to a boxed breakfast before the holidays. He usually cooks them breakfast, but this year, he will pick Suzanne B.’s brain about Panera, as she did this on CAP’s behalf for Back to School-time.
  • School Pictures – Dec. 2, 12-5, and Dec. 3 – 2-6. Please come get photos, even if you don’t plan to purchase a packet. This way, we can have photos for the yearbook. Mr. Cowl is also hoping to pass out Honor Roll certificates from last year during picture time.

NEXT MEETING: December 1st, 1-1:40 p.m., on Zoom

CAP General Meeting Notes

October 6, 2020

1:00 pm – 1:40 pm, via Zoom

TREASURER’S REPORT

Monthly budget and YTD presented at meeting. It is slow, because of Covid.
$192.89 came in this quarter from FredMeyer Rewards. Budget for this year is posted on the CAP Website.

BYLAW CHANGE VOTING – due to our online format, we took a vote based on Suzanne reading each section and asking for objections. There were no objections, so all 3 motions carried, and the new bylaws are approved.

UPDATES ON CAP ACTIONS

  • We gave a going-away gift to Mrs. Hart, as she was transferred to RHL.
  • We gave welcome gifts / cards / giftcards for the 4 new teachers.
  • We have made contact with all facebook parent groups by grade, and have an up-to-date list. If you are interested in connecting with other parents, send us an email and we can help you get in contact with the correct moderator. We also shared this info in the breakout groups at the end of the meeting.
  • Teacher encouragement – monthly, small gifts to encourage them during this trying time. CAP is looking for a coordinator for this position. Suzanne can cover this month, but would love for someone else to partner with this. (Hollie A. said she is willing to partner with Suzanne, or at least take a month.)

RESULTS OF SURVEY-MONKEY SURVEYS

  • Meeting Times – the majority of people would like to try to meet in the evening from 6-7 p.m. (31%), followed closely by continuing to meet from 1-2 (27%). Therefore, our November meeting will be held in the evening, from 6-6:40 p.m., via Zoom. We will give it a try and see how it goes.
Community Connectedness Ideas – Thanks for all the great ideas! We discussed some venues / volunteer opportunities today – We could use:

    • anOnlineSharingCoordinator(ClusterCoordinator-trynewclustersweekly),
    • a Minecraft Coordinator / Moderator (Megan T. said she is interested in helping with this),
    • a PenPal Coordinator, and
    • A Book Exchange Coordinator? We asked about the district’s position on having kids come to campus a t all. Mr. Cowl said the 3rd and 4th graders are doing drive-through book pickup already. It may be a possibility, but there may be concerns, both with weather and social distancing. He said it’d probably be best to coordinate with a time the teachers are already going to be doing a drive-through. Pfeiffer and Bourgess are already filling that need, so maybe CAP doesn’t need to do this at this time. Melissa W. is asking about using the church overhang when the weather is bad, and Mr. Cowl said that is something a coordinator could check into. He doesn’t know if it’s a possibility or not.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

  • Payback Book Fundraiser – was set to officially end Oct. 2 – we have only sold 65 books so far – Tammy H. said Ted Schamp (publisher) is fine to run the sale for another month to see if we can get our numbers up (last year, it was over 500 books). He’d like us to try to sell more and go through the end of November. What he wants is to keep it posted on social media and make sure it continues to be in the dailies. Maybe send an email once a week to emphasize this, too. Hollie A. suggested trying to have a box to try to sell on-site during the monthly drive-thru book pick-ups for primary grades. (This would be good to coordinate with the primary teachers.) Tammy will contact Ted, then let Hollie know. We will announce our current (low) numbers in our announcements. We have a window of opportunity here.
  • MOD Pizza Fundraiser – October 14th. We have plenty of RSVPs now on GroupRaise, so it is officially happening. However you order (online, in person, etc), as long as you MENTION CAP, we will get credit.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile (now works on iPhones) & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Scan receipts. In September, there were zero submissions for CAP, so let’s all try to remember to do this!

PBIS / PAWS IDEAS – Hollie A. is bringing requests from the PAWS group to CAP, because we often partner with them to provide prizes. She is hesitant to ask too much in donations, because businesses are really hurting. She is wondering if CAP can help us in supporting our local businesses (possibly Dungeon Doughnuts? – possibly purchasing Wendy’s Frosties coupons?) during this time. CAP has a line in the budget and will provide up to $750 annually. (PBIS is a separate committee, which meets once a month, and includes Ms. Marks and Mr. Cowl. Ms. Marks is sending out a survey to all the students to determine how many unused tickets from last year are out there, and then the PBIS committee will determine what they can do to redeem them. The committee is considering having a drive-thru PBIS / PAWS store. They will let CAP know what they need as time goes on.)

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – interviews are coming up to permanently fill the 7th/8th Social Studies position.

BREAKOUT ROOMS – we split by high school, middle school, and primary school and had a more personal time to answer questions and connect. This was especially helpful to parents new to the school this year, as they were able to put names with faces and be welcomed by other parents.

NEXT MEETING: November 3rd, 6-6:40 p.m., on Zoom

CAP General Meeting Notes September 8, 2020

1:00 pm – 1:40 pm, via Zoom

CAP

  • Purpose of CAP – Suzanne welcomed us and introduced our CAP purpose statements.

BYLAW CHANGE PROPOSALS PRESENTED: 4 items need updated – fiscal year due to reflect IRS / state requirements (2 bylaws affected), current officers for the year, and possibility of zoom meetings. We will vote on these proposed changes next month.

UPDATES

  • Tori Denfeld is our new VP this year
  • Most events are on hold indefinitely – we hope to be inventive and find ways to connect our community, even though it’s not a “normal” school year right now. We would love to get ideas and feedback from parents.
  • Our annual Back to School Teacher Breakfast was still held, and went well. Rather than our traditional potluck, Suzanne B. purchased Panera boxed breakfasts for each teacher and staff member. This cost about $200.
  • Ice Cream Social went well. We handed out a lot of ice cream bars during the “drive-by” book passing-out time. It was still fun.
  • Teacher requests fulfilled – Mr. Rowe and Mrs. Harpe asked for sets of books for the new year. These cost $478 and $700. We encourage and remind the teachers to request what they might need in the classroom.
  • Retirement gifts for teachers – Mrs. Boyle (4th) retired – Suzanne B. used her “favorite things” page to make a gift basket for her. Mr. Albers, Sr. also retired, so we got him a gift card. Mr. Murray and Mrs. Karlsen left for ROL – we sent them a “we miss you and hope to see you again” gifts.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

  • Payback Book Fundraiser – Now through Oct. 2
    • All ONLINE this year!
    • Please help us make it a success by promoting and purchasing. ANYONE can purchase a book.
  • MOD Pizza Fundraiser – October 14th – buy pizza and let them know it’s for the CAM Fundraiser.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

  • Amazon Smile (now works on iPhones!!!) & Fred Meyer Rewards – Go to CAP website/CAM dailies to find out how to link your account to our school.
  • Box Tops – download the app and follow the steps. Start scanning receipts.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Budget for 2020-2021 – Megan told us about the treasurer’s report for Sept. We got our Amazon Smile money and some interest, so it was a small month. We also talked about the budget. We worked on figuring out a way to share our monthly budget with the group in future, but for this month, we can post it on the website and next month, we can attach it to the agenda.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Suzanne presented the idea of creating some sort of ongoing activities to foster community – maybe a weekly challenge – she’s heard of virtual 5Ks, scavenger hunts, etc. Please join us in brainstorming. Send us your ideas via email! We can work on posting with facebook.
  • painting rocks
  • Virtual 5K run
  • Scavenger hunt
  • reviving facebook groups and making sure each grade has one
  • new student friendship facilitation
  • Selfie contest
    • in Harvest / Halloween theme for October
    • of special talents, etc.
  • Would a different time be better? Suzanne asked for feedback regarding the best time for monthly meetings. CAP is putting out a SurveyMonkey asking about best times for meetings and about any ideas for community connection. Please give us your feedback!
  • Ms. Marks introduced herself and thanked CAP for all the support. Parents (of primary graders and upper-classmen) thanked her for sending individual postcards to students. Thanks, Ms. Marks!

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

  • Potential staffing changes – retirements and moves – there are a number of displaced teachers across the district due to declining enrollment. Tomorrow or Wednesday, they will get to choose from the open positions across the district based upon seniority. It’s hard to say who will end up where – he hopes to hear Wed. afternoon. Later this week, they will hopefully be training with the “transitional teachers” who have been doing a great job of temporarily teaching

these classes. The idea is that by next Monday, 9/14, the new teachers might be able to be in place.

  • We found out, through parent comment, that Mrs. Hart had told the kids she is going to go to ROL for the remainder of this year. Mr. Cowl explained that Hart, Murry, and Karlsen are on a one-year commitment to ROL and will have the option of returning to CAM next year.
  • Nothing new with building news. The district is still working on purchasing the building, and is still leasing at the moment. Nothing has been approved yet by the board. Things are on the back burner due to Covid.
  • Some students have still not activated their Zoom links. He wanted to let parents know that they need to do that, or they won’t be able to get into Zoom after 9/14. “Ken Wade” is legitimate, so please do accept that link. He is from BGSD, even though the email isn’t clear about that.

We’ll see you October 6th on Zoom from 1-1:40 pm for our next CAP meeting.
